New Bowls for the Bunnies

Enough water for everyone with new bowls for the bunnies. We need to fill them up about 3 times a day with six or seven rabbits in the cage using them. Rabbits like to drink from bowls better.

What can you learn from baby bunnies?

Answer: Probably many things, but one thing we learned is that rabbits prefer to drink from a bowl rather than the water bottles.

One day, Parsley's water bottle wasn't working optimally and we noticed that the babies didn't seem to be getting water out of it. So, we gave them a bowl of water and they all pounced on it and lapped it right up. (Wish I had had the camera with me.) Even though the water bottle was working well after we adjusted it, we continued to fill up small bowls of water for the babies and they and Parsley were always thirsty, even though the water level in the bottle was going down. We also began filling the water bowls for the other rabbits, and it appeared that they all preferred drinking from a bowl rather than the bottle, so we bought new bowls for the cages and got them installed. (We also cleaned the nest boxes at this time.)

First we did Sunny's. We planned to do them all in that manner, but after we had Parsley's in, we noticed that the babies were standing in the water dish to get to the food, so we moved it to the back. We decided to give them two bowls to see if they enjoyed having an easier time getting to their hay. For the most part, the babies just enjoy sitting in that second bowl and using it as the "potty place." So, we will have to see what we decide about this new set up.

A second thing we learned from the baby rabbits, is that their mommas get very hungry. All three of our girls are eating more and anxious for food when we go out in the mornings.
