Rabbit Hutch Plans
For one hutch:
Rip four 8-foot 2x4's into 8 2x2's. (Or, buy seven 8-foot 2x2's.)
Cut those boards up as follows:
1st board - 36", 36", 22.25"
2nd board - 36", 36", 22.25"
3rd board - 24", 24", 24", 21"
4th board - 24", 24", 24", 21"
5th board - 25", 25", 25", 18"
6th board - 25", 18", 18", 18", 15"
7th board - 15" (This leaves you with most of a piece to go toward another hutch, if you are making more than one hutch.)
Piece of Plywood
Ramp 20" x 5" - adjust it to the exact size you need when cutting 45° angles on the ends
Platform - Make slight adjustment to make exact size you need.
Other supplies:
Thin supports for the loft. (16", 8", 5", 4")
12 inch piano hinge
#9 2.5-inch exterior screws
Hardware Cloth for the sides
14-gauge .5" x 1" wire for the bottom (3 feet)
Handle/latch or make your own
Staples and staple gun
Brads and brad gun
The 25" pieces need angles cut into them. We marked a piece of "lattice" left over from ripping our boards by holding it up to the cage. They are not 100% accurate, but they work. This is how our template came out. (If you are more skilled than us, you may be able to figure out the angles exactly as they should be.)
Assembling Pieces
Base - make a box with two 36 " pieces and two 21" pieces.
Top - make a box with two 24" pieces and two 18" pieces.
Door - make a box with two 22.25" pieces and two 15" pieces.
Sides - make two isosceles trapezoids with the base being 36" and the top side being 18". The parallel sides should be attached to the 24" pieces so that there is a box shape in the middle. The 25" pieces, cut to the correct angles, attach to the base and 24" pieces to form the two non-parallel sides of the trapezoid.
